The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), through the United Nations Platform for Spaced-Based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER), conducted the eighth edition of the United Nations International Conference on Space-based Technologies for Disaster Risk Reduction from 24 to 26 October 2018 in Beijing, China, under the title “Enhancing Disaster Preparedness for Effective Emergency Response”.

About one hundred participants from 34 countries and eight regions participated in the conference. It brought together national organizations involved in disaster management and generating geospatial information in the countries where UN-SPIDER undertook technical advisory support activities. The conference was also attended by representatives of UN-SPIDER Regional Support Offices, various regional and international organizations, and experts from different parts of the world.
