SEWS-D partners organize side event at Multi-Hazard Early Warning Conference in Cancun, Mexico, May 2017:

On behalf of the SEWS-D partners, UNOOSA and FAO organised a side event at the 2017 Multi-Hazard Early Warning Conference in Cancun, Mexico. The event featured keynote presentations by UNOOSA on Advancing Drought Early Warning Efforts through the use of space-based information and by FAO on FAO's Agricultural Stress Index System (ASIS). UN-SPIDER / CNE Regional Expert Meeting in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 2016:

UN-SPIDER and the National Emergency Commission of the Dominican Republic carried out the “Regional Expert Meeting: Use of Space-based Information in Early Warning Systems for Drought”. The meeting  was conducted in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on 18 and 19 July. The meeting was used to share information on advances made by government agencies where the project is being implemented and by the partners.

 

UN-SPIDER /and CNE conduct a training programme for the EIGEO group in Dominican Republic in July 2016:

UN-SPIDER and the National Emergency Commission of the Dominican Republic carried out a training course on the UN-SPIDER Recommended Practices focusing on drought indicators.   The training course, conducted from 20 to 22 July 2016, targeted the members of the EIGEO group and was conducted by experts from the Federal University of Santa Maria in Brazil and the Agustin Codazzi Geographic Institute of Colombia.

 

UN-SPIDER conducted Expert Missions to Guatemala and El Salvador in July 2016:

Staff from UN-SPIDER  met with staff from government agencies in Guatemala and El Salvador to discuss advances related to the project. The opportunity was used to provide these government agencies the updated version of the VIC and SVI maps which have been generated using the upgraded version of the Recommended Practices that mask out pixels covered with clouds.
