The combined AfricaGIS 2013 and GSDI World Conference was inaugurated in Addis Ababa on 4 November 2013. The conference is jointly by EIS-Africa, the GSDI Association, the International Geospatial Society, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and Addis Ababa University and takes place from 4 to 8 November 2013.

AfricaGIS is the largest regularly occurring GIS conference in Africa with participants from the entirety of the continent. The GSDI World Conference has built a reputation for excellence in content and moves across the globe to offer geospatial specialists in all parts of the world opportunities to better exchange ideas and learn from global peers in building spatial data infrastructure. The conference's theme is "Spatial Enablement in Support of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction" aiming to look at ways to spatially enable government, industry and citizens and thus support overall economic development and poverty reduction in Africa.
