The training course allowed UN-SPIDER to train the staff of the Geospatial Information Group for Risk Management and Emergency Response (EIGEO) team on the use of the UN-SPIDER Recommended Practices for drought monitoring as part of the project to strengthen drought early warning systems. The EIGEO brings together professionals and experts from more than 15 different institutions, universities and NGOs from the Dominican Republic. The training was conducted by experts from the Santa María Federal University, Brazil and Agustín Codazzi Geographic Institute (IGAC), Colombia. It focused on the generation of maps and use of the SVI and VCI indexes in drought effects on vegetation.
