The Conference Climate Science from Space: Synergies for a greener innovation economy is organised within the frame of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher education, with the support of the European Commission.

The conference will address topics of major relevance to the Societal Challenge ‘Climate Action’. It aims to help building bridges linking space and climate ecosystems, and to contribute to the European Green Deal and to a transition towards greener and climate resilient society and economy.

This will be achieved by showing how space-based systems can improve daily lives and contribute to protecting the planet. In looking ahead towards the implementation of initiatives built on space-based applications with direct impact on the environment and the economy, concrete examples of developments and innovation in various sectors will be discussed. An appropriate balance between environmental, economic and social elements, will be provided with Portuguese, European and international initiatives, projects and policies featuring innovation and technologies towards clean transformation.

The concept dovetails with the 18-month Trio (DE-PT-SI) Programme of the Council on the need to foster a competitive space sector and its integration into European economy, including in promoting market driven approaches and opening space to new actors.

The event received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
