A UNOOSA/UN-SPIDER expert participated in the 4th meeting of the CEOS Working Group on Capacity Building and Data Democracy (WGCapD) from 18 to 20 March 2015 in Pretoria, South Africa. CEOS is the Commitee on Earth Observation Satellites. UNOOSA is an associate member of CEOS and an active participant in the Working Group.

UNOOSA has contributed to a new publication by the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) and the European Space Agency (ESA) on the use of satellite-based Earth observation (EO) for disaster risk reduction. "Satellite Earth Observations in Support of Disaster Risk Reduction" is a special edition developed for the upcoming Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in Sendai in March.

Water resources in Africa: ESA TIGER initiative holds Workshop

From 21 to 22 October 2013, UN-SPIDER participated in the TIGER workshop 2013, held in Tunis, Tunisia. The TIGER initiative was launched in 2002 within the context of the Committee of Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) by the European Space Agency (ESA) responding to the urgent need for action in Africa expressed at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD). The overall scope is to assist African countries to overcome problems faced in the collection, analysis and use of water related geo-information by exploiting the advantages of Earth Observation (EO) technology.

Canadian Space Agency supports Caribbean Satellite Disaster Pilot

The Canadian Space Agency, in close cooperation with the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS), continues to be a major contributor to the Caribbean Satellite Disaster Pilot (CSDP), which is GEO (Group on Earth Observations) project (GEO task DI-01-C5_1). During the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season RADARSAT-2 has captured some 70 high-resolution images to-date for rapid damage assessments over areas affected by hurricanes and severe tropical storms.

Monitoring Volcanic Ash and Impacts on Agriculture: CSA, NASA and World Bank Cooperation

Within the framework of the international Committee on Satellite Earth Observation (CEOS), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is collaborating with NASA on various projects helping to monitor, manage and respond to natural disasters. This partnership offers CSA and NASA the opportunity to share Earth Observation (EO) data acquired by Canadian and American satellites for the purpose of scientific research and operational applications.
