This technical report summarizes the methodology used and the results obtained during an investigation of the fire phenomenon in Mesoamerica between 2001 and 2006. This work was done based on NASA's MODIS satellite images of hotspots. The objective of this work was to complete the strategic information necessary for the Ecoregional Assessment which requires an outline of the quality, extension and distribution of forest fires in the region, their economic impact and the best methods of monitoring the phenomenon throughout the region.
