Online application to track insects in crop fields

Spensa Technologies Inc., a company based in the Purdue Research Park of Indiana, United States, has developed and launched a new online application that tracks the number of insects in certain crop fields. The program,, provides aerial field images taken from satellites and places the insect data over the image of the fields; growers and pesticide consultants can then better control crop damage caused by insects and optimize the use of insecticides. "Having definitive data that identifies the location and numbers of insects in a given field will help growers target the use of insecticides to areas where there are concentrated insect populations," said Johnny Park, president and CEO of Spensa. The Purdue Research Park-based company Allegro Dynamics LLC also contributed to the project developing the software for the programme.
