Google Map Maker: Extended to cover UK

Google Map Maker

The free mapping tool Google Map Maker is expanding its edit tools to cover the United Kingdom, as BBC reported. Users can add buildings, vegetations, roads, rivers and railways and other features to the maps contained in the tool. All additions are revised and approved by the user community and Google staff before going online.

Google Map Maker started in 2008 covering only Pakistan and Vietnam and about a dozen other countries. The tool has gradually expanded to cover the US, France and Australia and other countries all over the world. However, when taking the service to UK, Google had "technical obstacles to overcome" until now.
