www.rast.org.tr CALL FOR PAPERS 4th International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies Space for the Developing World RAST 2009 11-13 June 2009, Istanbul, TURKEY www.rast.org.tr Organized by Turkish Air Force Academy, Aeronautics and Space Technologies Institute Important Dates: Submission of summaries and special session proposals: 09 February 2009 Notification of acceptance 28 February 2009 Camera-ready submission of full papers 06 April 2009 Preamble: RAST (Recent Advances in Space Technologies) Conferences have now become a traditional biennial event with worldwide participation. The fourth RAST Conference or RAST 2009 will be held again in Istanbul on 11-13 June 2009. RAST Conferences are open to all areas of space, but each conference has a different theme. RAST 2009 will carry the theme: SPACE FOR THE DEVELOPING WORLD. Topics: In general, contributions regarding all aspects of recent developments in space technologies are welcome. In particular presentations addressing the specific theme of RAST2009 are welcome. Papers may fall under, but not be limited to the following topics: . Space technology utilization for development and societal well being. . How non-space-faring nations can reap the benefits of space. . International cooperation, especially among space-faring and developing countries. . Space technologies that contribute to security, considering all aspects and threats, natural, man-made, humanitarian etc. . Earth observation projects and programs geared especially toward prediction, mitigation monitoring of natural disasters, (earthquakes, floods, forest fires, etc.) . New remote sensing technologies and applications, i.e. hyperspectral sensing, SAR, applications in meteorology, environment, agriculture, etc . Developments in global positioning, interoperability, new applications,vehicle control . Developments in new space communication techniques, higher frequencies and bandwidths . Small satellites, micro, nano and pico satellites, cubesat developments . Affordable launch systems and developing countries . Design and construction of space structures, materials . Design and construction of space systems, simulation and testing . Energy from Space . New and novel instrumentation for various spacecraft functions, including attitude determination and control, power management, communication etc. . Scientific applications, near Earth space, deep space, microgravity sciences . Space law, space medicine, and social, educational and other benefits of space . Space robotics . Space weather Special Sessions: The participants of the conference are encouraged to organize special sessions (5-6 papers) on a particular area within the conference theme. Send all information as soon as possible but before the deadline of 09 February 2009 to one of the Special Sessions Co-chairs; Dr. Col. Serdar Karg?n (rast2009 [at] rast.org.tr), Seyhan Onba??o?lu (onbasiogl1 [at] itu.edu.tr) or Dr. Zafar Taqvi (zafar.s.taqvi [at] boeing.com) who will do a fast initial check and consult the technical program co-chairs and the members of the International Program Committee. Exhibition: An exhibition is planned during the conference. Paper submission: Prospective participants are invited to electronically submit an extended summary (minimum 500 words) of their work, following the instructions available on the web page. Accepted papers will be published in an IEEE proceedings volume (EI indexed) that will be available at the time of the conference. Selected papers from the conference will be considered for possible publications in archival journals.
