Organizing Institutions: Japan Landslide Society, International Consortium on Landslides, Research Centre on Landslides of Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) (Kyoto University, Japan), Research Center for Natural Hazards and Disaster Recovery (Niigata University, Japan), International Landslide Centre (Durham University, UK), Nepal Landslide Society, and Department of Applied Geology (Karlsruhe University, Germany)
The conference welcomes contributions dealing with but not limited to the following themes: 1. Landslide mechanisms; 2. Measurement, instrumentation, monitoring and modeling; 3. Landslide hazard mapping; 4. Countermeasure techniques for landslide stabilization; 5. Non-structural measures and education on landslide problems.
The conference will extend over 5 days. On the first day and second half oral and poster sessions will be presented, whereas on the second half and other days field trips from Sendai to Niigata will be conducted. There will be a special session, where country reports will be presented by several experts on landslide management works done in their respective nations.

REGISTRATION
The registration fee is 15,000 Japanese Yen, whereas for valid students it is 10,000 Japanese Yen. The registration fee includes the conference documents and proceedings, access to the opening programme and technical sessions.
The fee for foreign participants to the join post conference field trip will be 45,000 Japanese Yen, which will include the field guide, maps, bus transport, and lodging from 12th to 14th November 2008. It will also cover fooding from 12th November to 15th November 2008 (breakfast on 12th and dinner on 15th are not included).
You are requested to pay the registration and field trip fees at the Conference desk on 11th November 2008. Participants from the First World Landslide Forum may pay registration and field trip fees to the Forum directly.
