Global Space & Satellite Forum

Mon, 9 May - Wed, 11 May 2011
GSSF

GSSF 2011 returns in a new format. The conference programme includes joint sessions discussing common industry issues and individual streams highlighting advances in earth observation and sat-com applications. Conference sessions are held over the first 2 days so delegates can find sufficient time to set up onsite business meetings on the 3rd day. A detailed careers day is planned so the regional space and satellite industry can meet with young engineers and students.

Joint Sessions will bring together government and private sector space and satellite leaders with their downstream end users offering them new insights and perspectives on this dynamic industry. Join leaders from across the Middle East and North Africa and from around the world as they discuss technology and economic policy that will fundamentally transform the industry.

  1. Space Business Overview
  2. Trends in Launch Services
  3. Space Risks and Mitigation

The focus of the panel discussions under each of the above themes will be on how space can create new commercial opportunities, high-tech jobs, drive technological innovation and advance space-based innovations. Highlighting game-changing space and satellite technology developments, panelists will discuss how the Middle East region can benefit from these advances and claim its place in the global space market. Regional experts will also present interesting developments, opportunities and case studies.

UN-SPIDER Seminar on 11 May:

UN-SPIDER Senior Expert Yusuf Hascicek will lead the "Workshop for the Use of Space Science and Technology for Disaster Management and Emergency Response" on 11 May, 10 am to 1 pm.

This workshop will discuss ways to establishing a reliable communication network to support emergency communications and information network during natural and manmade disasters. Since public cellular lines get overloaded during the critical hours of the disasters, satellite communications seems to be the only secure way to support emergency telecommunications.
