Geo:spektive Platform

Heidelberg University of Education

The project was funded by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) with funds from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (2013-2017).

Remote sensing methods for geography lessons are nowadays anchored in national educational standards and a large part of educational plans and textbooks. The geo:spektiv platform offers learning modules with which young people can learn more about the potential of remote sensing by answering questions of environmental and spatial relevance. Competences in the use of satellite images will be promoted. The examples are selected on the basis of a nationwide curricula analysis.

Students use computers or tablets to work on geographical issues using RapidEye and TerraSAR-X satellite images. The basis for processing and analysis of satellite images by the students is the web-based remote sensing application BLIF. An adaptive implementation of the platform supports individual learning by adapting content and level of difficulty individually to the learner's abilities and needs.
