East Asia Summit (EAS) workshop and 2nd ASEAN workshop

These two workshops will be held back-to-back in Hangzhou, China, from 1 to 5 June 2015.This meeting will be hosted by the Ministry of Civil of Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, and co-organized by the National Disaster Reduction Centre of China (NDRCC), UN-SPIDER and UNESCAP.
The purpose of EAS workshop on "Applications of Space Information Technology in Major Natural Disaster Monitoring and Assessment" is to share experiences on applications of space-based information in major natural disaster monitoring and assessment, among East Asia Summit (EAS) member countries, strengthen their capabilities and exchange information on progress and advances made in applications of space information technology in disaster risk reduction.
The 2nd ASEAN workshop on "Development of mechanisms for acquisition and utilisation of space-based information during emergency response" will be organised back-to-back with the EAS workshop advocating the mechanisms and standard operating procedures for utilization of space-based information during emergency response. The workshop will build upon the outcomes of the 1st ASEAN workshop which was co-organised by AHA Centre, UN-SPIDER, LAPAN, and ESCAP in Yogyakarta on 15-16 April 2014.
The workshops will be attended by approximately 40 representatives and experts from EAS member states, academic institutes, regional and international organizations, and the private sector. The working language of the event will be English.
