European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT)

EUMETSAT is an intergovernmental organisation that was founded in 1986. EUMETSAT is a global operational satellite agency at the heart of Europe. Our purpose is to gather accurate and reliable satellite data on weather, climate and the environment around the clock, and to deliver them to our Member and Cooperating States, to our international partners, and to users world-wide.

In our increasingly weather-dependent society, satellite data has become indispensible for the National Meteorological Services to forecast the weather at all ranges and to produce timely warnings and other information that support public and private decision making for our social and economic wellbeing. Its purpose is to supply weather and climate-related satellite data, images and products – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – to the National Meteorological Services of their Member and Cooperating States in Europe, and other users worldwide. The vision of EUMETSAT is to be the leading user-governed operational agency for European Earth observation satellite programmes that are consistent with the objectives of its Convention. In this area, EUMETSAT will be a trusted global partner for the provision of satellite data from geostationary and low Earth orbits.
