Ministry of the Environment of Peru (MINAM)

The Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) is a branch of the Executive Branch of Peru created on May 13, 2008. Its function is to be the rector of the environmental sector with the functions of designing, establishing, executing and supervising the national and sectoral environmental policy. 
 
Its specific objectives are:
  • Strengthen decentralized environmental management by ensuring environmental quality and the conservation and sustainable use of the country's biological diversity and natural heritage.
  • Promote environmental culture, citizen participation and social equity in the decision-making processes for sustainable development, guaranteeing the country's environmental governance.
  • Strengthen the effective and efficient management of MINAM within the framework of the National Environmental Management System.
