Visual presentation of disasters, vulnerabilities and related risks help the decisionmakers extraordinarily in making decisions in a matter of seconds. It also helps convincing the communities to change their behaviors/attitudes to be resilient against disasters.
The GRSDM course provides the participants the skills to evaluate the spatial data requirements in disaster risk management, integrate disaster risk assessments into urban planning and human settlement, apply GIS & RS for designing of large scale early warning systems, use Participatory GIS (PGIS) at community level to create awareness and community based disaster risk management plans, and hazard risk models and analysis in a proper geo-spatial and cartographic framework.
