The Bangladeshi Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) can now better predict disasters caused by floods thanks to the JASON-2 satellite, developed by SERVIR and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

The SERVIR-Himalaya system is being launched today, 5th October, by Mr. Charles F. Bolden Jr., NASA Administrator, and Mr. Michael Yates, Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator of USAID in Kathmandu. The SERVIR programme is designed to build the capacity of countries to use earth observation and geospatial information technologies in different regions around the world.
SERVIR—Spanish for “To Serve”—is a Regional Visualization and Monitoring System that integrates earth observations (e.g. satellite imagery) and forecast models together with in situdata and knowledge for timely decision- making to benefit society.
