Today, the Second United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), will conclude in Vienna, Austria. It took place from 3 to 5 November 2014.

The conference brought together participants from governments of LLDCs, transit developing countries, donor countries, UN and other international organizations and the private sector to outline the next post-2015 development agenda for the LLDCs.

During the introductory ceremony, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that the international community must aid the LLDCs in achieving their goals for greater economic development and environmental sustainability. Moreover, the participants highlighted that the pursuit of such goals can be attained only by addressing LLDCs' vulnerability to climate change, desertification, land degradation and natural hazards.

The world community ought to secure global participation in LLDCs assistance and invest funding for climate change mitigation measures, as well as for building resilience to natural disasters and to transfer a wide range of technologies and knowh how to LLDCs.
