European Telecommunications Standards Institute issues call for experts

ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) is recruiting experts for two Specialist Task Forces (STFs) which will support the standardization work of the working group SatEC. ETSI hosts in the technical committee TC-SES (satellite earth stations) standardization activities on emergency communication via satellite (working group SatEC).

One STF will work on the definition of reference scenarios for emergency satellite-assisted telecommunication services. The objective of this activity is to provide reference scenarios for the evaluation/dimensioning of satellite-based emergency telecommunications. As emergency telecommunications is characterized by specific requirements due to disaster management processes, scenarios are the best vector to guarantee the integration of these specifics in satellite-based telecommunication standards. This Task Force requires 2 or 3 experts (for a total of 459 working days)between Dec 2013/Jan 2014 and March 2015. The call for experts is also open to non-ETSI members. More details are available in this document (320 KB).

Another STF will develop a generic encapsulation approach of alert messages. Satellite systems represent a unique and efficient solution to the delivery of one-to-many messages. The most common way to address this issue is to create a robust inter-operability framework for the delivery of digital alerting messages, able to work with the highest number of current and possibly future communication systems. Thus, this activity addresses the definition of a complex and powerful set of alert message enhancers. This Task Force requires 2 or 3 experts (for a total of 415 working days) between Dec 2013/Jan 2014 and March 2015. The call for experts is also open to non-ETSI members. More details are available in this document (333 KB).

The deadline for sending candidatures is 7 November 2013. For details on how and where to apply, kindly refer to the two documents linked above. In case of questions, kindly contact ETSI: STFcand [at] etsi.org (STFcand[at]etsi[dot]org)
