The private satellite company Skybox published on Friday, 27 December 2013, the first images of their remote sensing satellite SkySat-1 on their website. SkySat-1 is the first commercial satellite to produce high-resolution, HD videos of Earth from Space. The videos showcase high-resolution views of Tokyo, Bangkok, Baltimore, Las Vegas and Aleppo, Syria. The clips have not yet been calibrated or tuned.

SkySat-1 is the first of a planned constellation of 24 satellites. It captures up to 90-second video clips at 30 frames per second, allowing Skybox to gather dynamic information about the world at an unprecedented scale. These images can contribute to supply chain monitoring, maritime awareness, industrial plant activity, environmental monitoring, and emergency response.
