Indian Government appointed Shailesh Nayak as ad-hoc Chairman of ISRO

On 31 December 2014, Dr. Sailesh Nayak has been appointed as the interim Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), after K Radhakrishnan announced his retirement.

Dr. Nayak, is currently also in charge of the Department of Space, beside his position as Secretary at the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

From May 2006 to July 2008, Nayak has been the Director of the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), situated in Hyderabad, India. In this context he has developed an Early Warning System for Tsunami and Storm Surges in the Indian Ocean.

Furthermore, he was responsible for the conceptualization and operationalisation of Marine GIS.

In the past years, Nayak has made important contributions in advancing advisory services related to ocean state forecast, climate change, weather services, ocean science and modeling, ocean survey, resources, and technology.
