Himalayas: Satellite-based Rainfall Estimates

UN-SPIDER's Regional Support Office ICIMOD (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development) issued a study on detailed assessment of the accuracy of NOAA CPC_RFE2.0 satellite rainfall estimates over the central Himalayas of Nepal.

The Hindu Kush Himalayan region is vulnerable to many types of hazards, and especially to floods and landslides. The results of the study indicate that the overall spatial detection and trends are good, and with appropriate bias correction, the data could be applied in flood forecasting.
