United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Togo

In July 2011, Togo had received more than 4,000 refugees, most of whom are women and children. The majority of asylum seekers and refugees live in host communities and in urban settings, often in difficult conditions, without access to food and with irregular access to health services. Host communities are also experiencing “host fatigue” due to lack of resources. The Central Emergency Response Fund coordinated by UN-OCHA responds to the refugee crisis in Togo. These funds have been used to accommodate more refugees and to provide basic services such as water, food and emergency shelter; to profile, register and provide new arrivals with adequate documentation which is essential for assessing services; vulnerable populations have been identified and assisted too.
