We cordially invite you to participate in the 11th AARSE International Conference, which will take place in Kampala, Uganda from 24th to 28th October 2016. The conference is timely and has been designed to harness geospatial technologies to address the post -2015 global development agenda. Therefore, the issues in the AR5 IPCC report, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, the expected SDG’s, the envisaged new climate change agreements and how they impinge on Africa’s development pathways and the world at large will be firmly addressed in a broader sense by AARSE2016 conference.

The AARSE2016 conference is expected to bring together about 700 global delegates entailing scientists, academicians, practitioners, policy makers, technology developers/experts and business entities from various interdisciplinary fields of geo-information science, hazard and disaster science, humanitarian assistance, geography, engineering, geology, water, ecology, agriculture, social sciences and space science to deliberate on issues of enhancing and accelerating sustainable development in Africa in the midst of natural resource degradation, conflict, global environmental changes and rapid demographic changes.

Whether scientists, exhibitors or policy makers, it will be an opportunity not only to take stock of new knowledge and innovations, but will provide a great business opportunity. The conference will involve in-depth hands on training particularly for young scientists through a range of pre-conference training activities, plenary sessions given by renown scientists on specific topics, side events and breakout sessions which will be thematically arranged.

The conference will be organized around 10 subthemes, although requests for special sessions will also be considered. The planned subthemes are;

- From climate change to climate risk management

- Human capital development in geospatial science

- Big Data and Spatial Data Infrastructure

- Space Policy and strategies in Africa: Cost benefit of space technology

- Geospatial technologies for smart cities

- Geospatial science and technology for water and watershed management

- Conflict management, human security and peace

- Geospatial technologies for energy management
