De acuerdo con las recomendaciones planteadas como resultado de la Misión de Asesoría Técnica (MAT) realizada en Enero del 2010 y de la consiguiente Misión de Fortalecimiento Institucional de Noviembre del 2011 se estableció el Equipo Interinstitucional de Información Geo-Espacial para Gestión de Riesgos (EIGEO-GR) en República Dominicana. El Equipo de Información Geo-Espacial para Gestión de Riesgos - EIGEO-GR- cuenta con más de 15 miembros institucionales que representan a cerca de 15 ministerios y agencias del Estado y centros universitarios y está encabezado por un representante de la Comisión Nacional de Emergencias. El curso duró una semana y se centró en el uso de información obtenida desde el espacio en caso de inundaciones. Dicho curso incluyó clases magistrales y entrenamiento práctico usando distintos tipos de datos y paquetes de software.
