NASA satellites capture Tropical Storm Chantal over the Atlantic

Heavy rainfall and towering thunderstorms brought by Tropical Storm Chantal

Two NASA satellites have recently captured images of the Tropical Storm Chantal over the Atlantic Ocean revealing heavy rainfall and powerful thunderstorms. On July 8, NASA’s Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite saw the heaviest rainfall of Tropical Storm happening at a rate of over 115.5 mm (~4.5 inches) per hour near the center of Chantal.

TRMM Satellite Saw Heavy Rainfall When Cyclone Iggy Hit Australia's Sunset Coast

Tropical Cyclone Iggy is now a memory in southwestern Australia but it made its presence known when it made landfall on Australia's Sunset coast on February 2, 2012. NASA's TRMM satellite provided measurements of rainfall rates as it headed toward landfall and noticed heavy rain was falling in some coastal areas.
