Since the inception of Pacific GIS/RS User Conference in 1999, this annual event has attracted a lot of participants. Each year the range of GIS/RS technologies presented cover an array of applications including the management of resources of the small island Pacific nations.
The course is especially relevant for professionals (scientists and practitioners) with an academic background who deal with geospatial data but who have only a limited knowledge of the principles of GIS and earth observation in their application field.

Two of the world’s top technologies are consistently pairing up in what many believe is the evolution of information. Software companies are integrating geographic information systems (GIS) technology and social media to map people’s tweets and other social media platforms with geospatial data.
Last week 19 persons from various government entities on Sint Maarten (17), Anguilla (1) and the British Virgin Islands (BVI) (1) took part in part two of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing Course for Infrastructure Management and Disaster Risk Reduction.
The Centre National de l'Information Géo-Spatiale (CNIGS) is a public agency in Haiti, within the Ministry of Planning.
The mission of the Centre is to generate and disseminate geographic information of Haiti through the application of modern technologies; ensuring the availability of methods, tools, products and training, in order to support the action planning for sustainable development of the country.
