The National Military Geographic Institute of Ecuador is a Technical Institution within the Ecuadoran military. It was created to develop the national mapping and the geographic and cartographic files of the country. It also develops services in the scientific field of astronomy and earth sciences to support military operations and defend the national sovereignty and development.
The mission of the Applied Geoscience and Technology Division is "to help Pacific island people position themselves to respond effectively to the challenges they face and make informed decisions about their future and the future they wish to leave for the generations that follow." Its goal is to ensure that earth sciences are utilized fully in order to improve the livelihoods of Pacific communities.
