Colombia - Expert Mission

Colombia is exposed to a variety of hazards including earthquakes, landslides, debris flows, volcanic eruptions, floods and droughts. This Expert Mission was conducted with the aim of visiting several Government agencies, to hold discussions with the Colombian Space Commission on the establishment of a regional support office in Colombia and to establish better links with the Risk Management Secretariat.

Dates:

Wed, 14/04/2010 to Sat, 17/04/2010

Host Institution:

IGAC, INGEOMINAS, DPAE

Mission Expert:

Juan Carlos Villagran de Leon, UN-SPIDER

Mission Profile:

The mission included visits to the Risk Management Secretariat, the Colombian Space Commission, the Agustín Codazzi Geographical Institute (IGAC), the Institute for Hydrology, Meteorology, and Environment Studies (IDEAM), the seismological and volcanological Observatory of the National Research Institute of Geological Mining (INGEOMINAS - today Colombian Geological Service) and the Department of Prevention and Emergency of the District of Bogotá (DPAE - today FOPAE).

Mission Outcome:

To mission allowed UN-SPIDER to advance discussions with IGAC, which is serving as Executive Secretariat to the Colombian Space Commission, regarding the establishment of a Regional Support Office to be operated by IGAC.
