FAO to develop a database to support water-scarce countries

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will develop an open-access database using satellite information to support water-scarce countries in the Near East and North Africa, where droughts and food security are major issues. The portal’s objective is to gather and assess satellite data in order to enhance land and water productivity, and to foster the sustainability of agricultural systems.

Indonesia: Aqua and Terra satellites locate nearly 530 fire hotspots in Sumatra

Satellite images help detect fires in Indonesia

NASA’s satellites detected over 500 hotspots of forest, plantation and peatland fires across the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. In Riau Province alone, the authorities located over 380 hotspots through satellite imagery from NASA's Terra and Aqua missions.

European Space Imaging wins European Commission Agricultural Support Contract

Earth Observation for Food and Agriculture: Ukraine RSO takes part in Workshop

Prof. Nataliia Kussul of the UN-SPIDER RSO delivered a presentation

Representatives of the UN-SPIDER Regional Support Office in Ukraine, hosted by SRI NASU-SSAU, took part in the International Meeting on Food Security, Earth Observations and Agricultural Monitoring. This workshop was held in Brussels on November 21, 2013 at the premise of the Secure World Foundation and was organized by Secure World Foundation (SWF), the European Commission (EC), and the Group of Earth Observations (GEO) Secretariat.
