UAE: First Arab-made satellite to be launched in 2017

On 29 December 2013, UAE's Vice President and Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced that the UAE will launch the first satellite fully built and manufactured in 2017 launching its executive phase. Khalifa Sat will be build under the responsibility of the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST).

DubaiSat-2 to Be an Improvement on Predecessor

DUBAI // The eagle eyes of the DubaiSat-2 can spot travelling cars, make out details on buildings and read logos on aircraft waiting on runways, all the way from outer space.

The latest technology will produce images with much greater clarity than its predecessor, DubaiSat-1, and with much more frequency, its designers announced yesterday.

DubaiSat-1 successfully launched

Engineers were celebrating the successful launch of the UAE's first government satellite last night. DubaiSat-1 took off on a Dnepr rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan last night on schedule at 10.46 UAE time.

Images from DubaiSat-1 can be used for a variety of applications from urban development, scientific research, telecommunications, transportation to civil engineering and constructions, mapping and GIS. (Source: EIAST)
