UNEP-GEAS publishes Report on Early Warning Systems

The UNEP Global Environmental Alert Service (GEAS) has launched an in-depth report focusing on Environmental Governance and Early Warning Systems. Recent advances in communication and information technologies and the better understanding of natural hazards and the underlying science have facilitated a development on early warning technologies. This in-depth bulletin introduces the basic concepts of early warning systems, the role of earth observation for disaster management, risk reduction and environment. The report focuses on existing early warning/monitoring systems while addressing the need to develop and improve monitoring, communication and response for slow-onset.
